Callistemon is a small tree with hard, gray-brown bark; young branches are angular and initially have long silky hairs that later become hairless. Leaves are alternate; petioles are extremely short; leaf blades are hard and leathery, linear, 5-9cm long, 3-6mm wide, with sharp tips, initially pubescent, obvious oil gland spots, midrib raised on both sides, and obvious lateral veins. The spike inflorescence grows at the top of the branches; the calyx tube is slightly hairy, the calyx teeth are semicircular and nearly membranous; the petals are green, ovate, 6mm long, about 4.5mm wide, with oil gland dots; the stamens are about 2.5cm long, bright red, the anthers are dark purple and oval; the style is slightly longer than the stamens, green at the tip and red at the rest. The capsule is hemispherical, 5mm long and 7mm wide, with a truncate tip, a rounded calyx tube mouth, slightly sunken petals, and splits into 3 parts, with the fruit falling off. Seeds are linear, about 1 mm long. Flowering period is from June to August.
