[Alias] River cypress, water monster willow, Xihe willow, tamarisk, mountain willow, warm wood cypress, water cypress branch, stinking red willow.

[Source] Medicinal material source: The young branches of the Tamarix chinensis plant of the Tamarix family.

[Original form] Multi-branched shrub, 0.5-3m high. Perennial branches reddish brown or yellowish green. The leaves are densely grown on the green twigs of the current year, ovate, linear-lanceolate or oblong, 2-4 (-7) mm long and 0.5-2 m wide. The racemes are densely packed and spike-like, growing at the top of the current year's branches, 5-18cm long; the bracts are broadly ovate or elliptic, 7-8mm long, 4-5mm wide, with membranous serrated edges, often with a long tail-like tip; the sepals are 5, elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, about 4mm long; the petals are 5, obovate-oblong, 5-6mm long, pink or lavender, and persistent in fruit; the stamens are 5 long and 5 short, arranged alternately, with filaments 1/2-2/3 partially fused; the ovary is conical. The capsule is conical, 8-10mm long, 1-1.5mm thick, with more than half of the awn at the tip covered with white long hairs. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on river beaches, lakeside sand and gravel Gobi.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The twigs are cylindrical, with a brown, smooth and hairless surface, densely covered with leaflets, which are linear, 2-5mm long, brittle, easy to break, and with a yellow-white pith in the center of the cross section.

【Functions and indications】Lifting yang and dispersing; detoxifying and clearing rashes; dispelling wind and relieving itching. It is mainly used for measles that does not break out; high fever; cough; mumps; rheumatoid arthritis; urticaria and pruritus; ringworm; blood heat and alcohol poisoning

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-9g. For external use: appropriate amount, decoction
