【English Name】 Tuber Siemona Root

[Other names] Radix Stemonae, Radix Asparagus, Radix Stemonae

[Source] It is the tuberous root of Stemona tuberosa L., a plant of the Stemonaceae family .

[Original form] Perennial climbing herb, up to 5m in height. The stem is twined at the top. The leaves are usually opposite, broadly ovate, 8-30 cm long, 2.5-10 cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, shallowly cordate base, entire or wavy margin, and 7-11 veins; petiole 4-6 cm long. Flowers are axillary; there is a lanceolate bract under the flower; there are 4 tepals, lanceolate, yellow-green, with purple veins. Capsule obovate and flat. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in shady places under bushes, beside streams, roadsides, valleys and on damp rocks. It is mainly produced in Hubei, Guangdong, Fujian, Sichuan and Guizhou.

[Properties] The tuber is relatively thick, 10 to 26 cm long and 1 to 2 cm in diameter; the surface is light gray-yellow with shallow longitudinal wrinkles; the texture is relatively solid.

[Chemical composition] Contains tuberostemonine, isotuberootemonine, hypOtubcro6temonInc, oxytuberstemonine, stemine, stenine, etc.
