[Original form] Perennial herb, 30-50cm high. The whole plant is hairless. The rhizome is thick and short, with many fibrous roots. Simple leaves are basal; petioles are 3-4cm long with wings on both sides; leaf blades are oblanceolate or narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse or blunt-pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base, with fine serrations on the margins, thin membranes, without powder, green above, and light green below. The scape is 35-50m high, with 1-2 whorls of terminal umbels and more than 10 flowers; the bracts are lanceolate, 6-9mm long, sharp, and have white powder; the pedicels vary in length and have white powder; the calyx is bell-shaped, with 5 lanceolate lobes, 3mm long, and have white powder; the corolla is broadly bell-shaped, reddish purple to deep rose red, about 1.5m in length and diameter, with 5 lobes, ovate, entire or concave at the apex, 5 stamens, and many ovules inside. Fruit a capsule, slightly longer than persistent calyx. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing beside ditches, river beaches, alpine swamps and wet grasslands at an altitude of 3200-4800m.

【Properties】 Identification of properties: The top of the scape is covered with creamy yellow powder. Umbels 5-10-flowered, sometimes with 2nd whorl: bracts lanceolate. The calyx is linear, narrow bell-shaped when unfolded, and the upper part is divided into lanceolate lobes. The edges of each 2 lobes are densely covered with white powder extending down to the base, forming a purple and white longitudinal band on the entire calyx; the corolla is reddish purple to dark red. It has a faint smell and a bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; cold

【Functions and indications】Relieve liver fire; clear dampness and heat. It is used to treat high fever convulsions in children and diarrhea caused by damp heat.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-6g.
