[Source] Medicinal material source: leaves or roots of the Rosaceae plant.

[Original form] Huaxi small stone accumulation, deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub, 1-3m high. The twigs are slender and slightly curved, reddish brown or purple-brown, densely covered with grayish white soft hairs when young, which gradually fall off later. The perennial branches are dark brown. The leaves are odd-pinnate, alternate, with 7-15 pairs of leaflets, 2-4.5 cm long including petioles, pubescent when young; stipules are lanceolate, pubescent, and sometimes fall off; leaflets are opposite, elliptic, elliptic-oblong or obovate-oblong, 5-10 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, with acute or cusp at the apex, broadly cuneate or nearly rounded base, entire, sparsely pubescent on both sides, denser beneath, and with extremely short petiolules; there are narrow leaf wings on the rachis. Flowers are bisexual; terminal corymbs, with 3-5 flowers, 2-3cm in diameter; peduncle and peduncle are densely covered with grayish white soft hairs; bracts are linear-lanceolate, caducous early; calyx tube is bracelet-shaped; sepals are 5, nearly as long as the calyx tube, with soft hairs on the outside; petals are 5, oblong, white; stamens are 20; styles are 5, with long soft hairs at the base, and stigmas are capitate. The pear is ovate or nearly spherical, 6-8mm in diameter, blue-black, with sepals persistently reflexed; 5 pitlets, bony, with a rough surface. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in hillside thickets or dry land beside fields and roadsides at an altitude of 1500-3000m.

[Properties] Property identification: The compound leaves of this product have 15-31 leaflets, most of which fall off. The complete leaflets are elliptical, elliptical-oblong or obovate-short-circular, 5-10mm long, 2-4mm wide, entire, acute or pointed at the apex, broadly cuneate or nearly circular at the base, and covered with sparse soft hairs on both sides. Leaflets sessile or subsessile. The texture is brittle and easily broken.

[Chemical composition] The leaves and needles mainly contain catechol, (-) epicatechin [(-)-epicatechol] and gallocatecholo.
