[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the plant Grapevine of the Vitaceae family.

[Original form] A woody vine of Vitis vinifera. The branches are thick, the bark of old branches peels off in long flakes, and the young branches are densely covered with thorns, which are upright or slightly curved at the tip, 2-4mm long, and have branched tendrils. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are 6-13cm long, usually sparsely covered with small prickles; leaf blades are broadly ovate to ovate, 5-15cm long, 6.5-14cm wide, with short acuminate apex, sometimes with 3 inconspicuous shallow lobes, base cordate, margins with deep wavy serrations, glabrous except for short soft hairs on the veins and vein axils below. The flowers are heterogamous, with panicles opposite the leaves, 5-15 cm long; the flowers are small, about 2 mm in diameter; the calyx is inconspicuously 5-lobed, glabrous; the petals are 5, fused to each other at the top, and fall off early; the stamens are 5, opposite the petals, and the ovary is buried in the disk. The berries are spherical, blue-purple when ripe, and 1-1.5 cm in diameter. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in hillside shrubs below 1400m above sea level.

【Functions and indications】 Disperses blood stasis and eliminates accumulation; relaxes muscles and relieves pain. Mainly used for vomiting blood; abdominal distension; joint swelling and pain; muscle and bone pain

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 30-60g, double the amount for fresh product; or soak in wine.
