[Source] Medicinal material source: the young branches and fruits of the Acer truncatum of the Aceraceae family.

[Original form] Acer truncatum is a deciduous tree, up to 8m tall. The bark is light brown and smooth; the branches of the current year are green or purple-green, the branches of perennials are gray-yellow or gray-brown, and the leaves are opposite; the petiole is 2-3cm long, thin and glabrous; the leaf blade is papery, ovate, 7-9cm long, 5-6cm wide, with dense and sharp serrations on the edge, acute at the apex, nearly heart-shaped at the base, often deeply 3-lobed, the central lobe is larger, triangular-ovate, dark green on the upper side, and glabrous; the lower side is light green, with light yellow tufts of hair at the base of the veins when young, which fall off when old; there are 3 basal veins, and the lateral veins are pinnate. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, often in thin, drooping racemes; sepals 5; petals 5; stamens 8, glabrous, undeveloped in female flowers; disk located inside the stamens; ovary purple, undeveloped in male flowers. Pedicel 3-4mm long. The samaras are lavender when young and yellow-brown when ripe; the nutlets are slightly flat, the wings and nutlets are 2.5-2.9cm long and about 5mm wide, opening into an obtuse angle or nearly horizontal. The flowering period is April and the fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse forests at an altitude of 1000-1600m.
