[Source] Rhizome of Alocasia odora (Roxb.) K. Koch, a plant of the genus Alocasia in the family Araceae. It can be harvested throughout the year, with the outer rough skin removed and used fresh or sliced ​​and sun-dried.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly spicy, astringent, and cold. poisonous.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, and reduces swelling. Used for colds, tuberculosis, and typhoid fever; used externally to treat insect and snake bites, sores, and swellings.

[Usage and Dosage] 3-5 qian of dried product, 1-2 liang of fresh product. It can be taken orally after being simmered for a long time. For external use, appropriate amount can be mashed and applied to the affected area. Do not apply to normal skin.

【Note】 It can only be taken orally after long-term boiling; it cannot be applied to normal skin.

【Remarks】 (1) This product is toxic. It must be fried with rice until browned and simmered for a long time (more than 2 hours) to remove the poison before it can be taken orally. If used raw or boiled for too short a time, it can cause tongue swelling and numbness, or even symptoms of central nervous system poisoning. For mild cases, you can drink rice vinegar or ginger to detoxify.
