Leaves opposite; petiole 5-15mm long; leaf blade papery; elliptic-ovate or ovate, 5-11.5cm long, 2-3.5cm wide, apex short and acuminate, tip obtuse, base broadly cuneate or nearly round, dark green above, light green below, gray and purple when dry, entire or with inconspicuous wavy round teeth; lateral veins 5-7 on each side. The spike inflorescence is terminal, rarely in the upper leaf axils; the inflorescence axis is up to 30cm long and unbranched; the bracts are opposite, with 1-3 flowers in them; the bracteoles are tiny, 1-2mm long; the calyx is deeply 5-lobed, the lobes are linear-lanceolate, about 5mm long; the corolla is 4.2cm long, white or light red, with red spots at the base of the front lobes, the crown tube is about 3cm long, the throat is slightly enlarged, the front lobes of the crown are elliptical, about 1cm long, and the apex is obtuse; the filaments of the developed stamens are 2mm long, the anthers are about 1.5mm long, the sterile stamens are tiny, and separated from the filaments of the developed stamens; the ovary is slightly pubescent, and the style is about 3.1cm long and slightly pubescent.
