[Source] Medicinal material source: It is a processed product made from the dorsal and ventral carapaces of sea turtles or loggerhead sea turtles of the family Chelonoidis.

[Original form] 1. Sea turtle, body length 100-130cm. The head is generally about 15 cm wide and has symmetrical scales, one pair of frontal scales and four pairs of post-orbital scales. The snout is short and the jaws are not hooked. The dorsal horns are arranged in a flat pattern, and the cervical horn is short and wide. The five vertebral horn plates are irregular hexagonal in shape; the protrusions on both sides are arranged crosswise with the costal horn plates. There are 4 rib horns on each side; the two in the middle are larger. There are 11 gusset plates on each side. The hip gusset is slightly larger than the adjacent marginal gusset. The edges of the carapace are not obvious, the rear edge is slightly serrated, the plastron is relatively flat, there are four lower edge angular plates at each side of the carapace bridge, and a smaller inverted triangular inter-laryngeal angular plate at the front end of the ventral side. The laryngeal angular plates, brachial angular plates, pectoral angular plates, ventral angular plates, femoral angular plates and anal angular plates are arranged in pairs on both sides of the midline. The four limbs are flipper-shaped and covered with large scales. The forelimbs are obviously longer than the hind limbs, each with one claw on the inner side, and the juveniles sometimes have two claws. The male's claws are large and hooked. Tail short; males have longer tail. The back is dark green, olive or brown, and the horns are spotted with yellow-white radiating patterns. Belly yellow.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Lives in the ocean and feeds on large seaweed, cephalopods, crustaceans and fish. The breeding season is from April to October every year. After mating, the female turtle digs holes on the beach at night to lay eggs. Each time, 100-150 eggs are laid, and up to 200 eggs can be laid. The eggs are white and spherical, with leathery and flexible shells, and a diameter of 40-45mm. The incubation period is 50-70 days. It can lay eggs several times a year.

[Chemical composition] The turtle glue made from the back and plastron of sea turtles is mainly composed of protein, which contains 15 kinds of amino acids, such as lysine, histidine, arginine, aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamic acid, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. Among them, proline has the highest content. In addition, it also contains metal elements such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.

[Preparation] Turtle glue is a gelatinous block made by boiling and concentrating turtle shells.
