Here I would like to introduce you to Peucedanum chinense. 【English name】 root of West szechwan Hogfennel [Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Peucedanum peucedanum of the Umbelliferae family. [Original form] Perennial herb, 40-80cm tall. The root is cylindrical, 8-15cm long and 0.5-1.5cm in diameter. The lower part is often branched, and there are many brown leaf sheath fibers remaining on the top. The stem is single, with slender longitudinal stripes, branched at the bottom, often lavender, smooth at the bottom, rough at the top, with short hairs. The petiole of the basal leaf is 1-7cm long, with a narrow, slightly purple leaf sheath at the base, clasping the stem; the leaf blade is long ovate in outline, pinnate-divided two to three times, with 3-4 pairs of first pinnae, the last lobes are linear, oblanceolate or obovate, cuneate at the base, the tip lobe gradually narrows to cuneate at the base, 1-2.5cm long, 0.5-1.5cm wide, with 2-3 coarse serrations or shallow serrations on the margin, the petiole and lower surface are often short and rough, with short eyelashes on the margin; the leaves on the upper part of the stem are sessile, with leaf sheaths clasping the stem, the leaf blade is pinnate-divided once, and the lobes are narrow and small. The compound umbels are terminal and lateral, with thick peduncles and rough hairs on the top; there are no bracts; the rays are 5-12 (-20), with short hairs; the bracteoles are 8-12, linear-lanceolate, with long acuminate tips and densely covered with short soft hairs; the umbels have 10-20 flowers, and the pedicels are hairy; the calyx teeth are small and inconspicuous; the petals are nearly round, folded in color, and sparsely pubescent on the outside; the stylopodium is conical, and the style is curved downward. The fruit is ovate-elliptical, flattened on the back, 3-3.5mm long, 2-3mm wide, with sparse short hairs, linear protrusions on the dorsal ridges and midwood, and narrow wing-shaped lateral ridges; there are 3-4 oil tubes in each groove, and 6-8 (-10) oil tubes on the symphysis. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
