[Alias] Seaweed (Compendium of Materia Medica), Seaweed (Food Materia Medica by Yao Kecheng).

[Source] It is the algae of Enteromorpha striata, a plant of the Ulvaceae family . Taken in winter and spring.

[Original morphology] The algae is bright green or dark green, up to about 40 cm in height; it has many slender branches, usually branching 2 to 3 times, and sometimes the branches are hairy or wider. The cells of the algae are arranged in vertical rows from the base to the top. The body thickness is 26 to 70 microns.

[Habitat distribution] It is mostly found in the mid-tidal zone and the muddy bottom of inner bays, and thrives more in the low-lying swamps in the intertidal zone. Distributed along the coasts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan and Guangdong.

【Nature and flavor】Salty, cold.

【Functions and indications】 Softening hard masses, dissolving lumps and resolving phlegm. Treat goiter, scrofula, restlessness, fever and nosebleed.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction. For external use: mash and apply.

【Note】 ① Meng Shen: "Eating too much dried meat with moss will cause scabies and make people weak, yellow and less bloody."

[Remarks] Dried moss is also edible among the people. There are many varieties, and they are often mixed together. In addition to the above-mentioned Enteromorpha stripes, there are also Enteromorpha brevifolia (distributed throughout my country's coastal areas), Enteromorpha flat (commonly found along the coasts of the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, and also produced in Taiwan), Enteromorpha intestinalis (distributed throughout my country's north and south coasts), etc.
