[Source] Medicinal material source: The flower of Verbenaceae plant Dichroa yunnanensis.

[Original form] Yunnan Changshan, algae forest, 1-3m high. The plant has a foul smell, and the young branches, inflorescences, leaves and petioles are densely covered with yellow-brown velvet. The hairs on the old branches gradually fall off and there are lenticels. Simple leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-6cm; leaf blade is papery, broadly ovate, ovate or cordate, 4-14cm long, 3-10cm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate or cordate, margin with irregular serrations or wavy teeth, surface covered with rough hairs, back side densely covered with light yellow or yellowish brown short soft hairs; lateral veins are 4-5 pairs, with several disc-shaped glands in the vein axils at the base. The corymbose inflorescence is dense and terminal; the bracts are ovate-elliptic or lanceolate, 2-3.5cm long, and caducous early; the bracteoles are linear, 1-2.2cm long; the calyx is bell-shaped, red, 6-9mm long, covered with hairs and a few glands, the calyx is 5-lobed, and the lobes are triangular; the corolla is white to light red, the corolla tube is short, mostly hidden in the calyx, the lobes are 5-lobed, oblong to ovate, 4-7mm long; there are 4 stamens, and both of them extend out of the corolla with the style. The drupe is nearly spherical, blue-black when ripe, about 7mm in diameter, and most of it is surrounded by an enlarged red persistent calyx. The flowering period is from April to July, and the fruiting period is from July to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in sparse forests on hillsides and in thickets beside valleys at an altitude of 1900-3000m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The inflorescence is densely packed into a capitate or corymbose form, the flowers are shriveled and wrinkled, the flowers are evening bell-shaped, 6-9mm long, light yellow-green at the bottom, yellow-red or purple-red at the top, densely covered with short soft hairs on the outside, 5-lobed at the apex, and the lobes are ovate-triangular; the corolla is pink or yellow-white, with a short tube that usually does not exceed the anther, 5 lobes, sparsely covered with soft hairs on the outside; there are 4 stamens, 1 pistil, and a 2-lobed stigma, both of which extend out of the corolla. It has a peculiar smell and a slightly bitter taste.
