Geranium is a perennial herb of the genus Geranium. Geranium oil is extracted from young branches and leaves and used as the raw material for preparing essences. The petiole is long, the leaf heart is oval, with 5 to 7 deep palmate fissures, and irregular pinnate-like fissures on the edge. Umbel inflorescence, long pedicels, small flowers, red or lavender, blooming from April to May. This species originated in South Africa, where the genus is most widely distributed, and there are many cultivars. It is mainly produced in Reunion Island in Africa. It is also cultivated in the Soviet Union, Morocco and Algeria, but the main type is pink geranium. China introduced a small amount of it as a potted ornamental plant in the early 20th century, and began to cultivate it productively after 1949.
