The Chinese medicinal herb Dioscorea bulbifera, also known as Dioscorea bulbifera, is the dried tuber of Dioscorea bulbifera, a perennial herbaceous twining vine of the Dioscoreaceae family. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Coptis chinensis has the effects and functions of dispersing nodules and eliminating goiters, clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. Be aware of side effects when using.

Chemical composition

Semi-dried tubers contain sucrose, reducing sugar, starch, algin and tannin. It also contains diosgenin B, C and diosgenin. Wild ones contain flavonoids A, B, and C.

Clinical Application

1. Treatment of goiter: decoct 250g of Dioscorea bulbifera in water twice, mix the filtrates, and add 400ml of white wine (it is also effective without adding), making a total of 2400ml. Take 5 ml each time, twice a day, after meals. Or grind Dioscorea bulbifera into powder, take 1g per day, divided or taken all at once. 10 days is one course of treatment. Stop the medicine for 3 to 5 days before taking the second or third course of treatment. 127 cases of endemic goiter of grade I to IV were treated. After taking the medicine for more than a month, all patients had varying degrees of reduction in neck circumference, with a cure rate of 67.8%.

2. Treatment of thyroid adenoma: 15g of Dioscorea bulbifera (raw drug), stewed and taken. Take it for 5-8 weeks without taking any other medication except general vitamin supplements. A total of 25 cases were treated; the adenomas completely disappeared in 3 cases, significantly shrank in 17 cases, and the treatment was ineffective in 5 cases. Grind 300g of Dioscorea bulbifera into fine powder, mix with 1500ml of white wine, warm in 60-70℃ water for 4 hours, take 6ml each time, 3 times a day, and the treatment course is 1 month. 48 cases of thyroid adenoma were treated, 40 were cured, 5 were significantly effective, 1 was effective, and 2 were ineffective.

3. Treatment of cervicitis: Wash and dry 500g of Dioscorea bulbifera, soak it in 2000mL of rice wine, put it into a jar and seal it, steam it on low heat for 2 hours, take it out, keep it sealed and place it in a cool and dark place for 7 days before use. During treatment, wipe off cervical secretions with a cotton swab, soak a sterilized cotton ball with a tail in this medicine and stick it on the surface of the cervix. The patient can remove it after 24 hours. 53 cases were treated, 17 were cured, and 36 were effective. The total effective rate was 100%.

4. Treatment of whooping cough: Take 9-15g of fresh yellow loquat root or fruit (for children aged 3-5 years old), add 9g of rock sugar and stew it. Taking one dose per day, more than 50 cases were cured.

5. Treatment of esophageal cancer and gastric cancer: Take 300g of Dioscorea bulbifera and soak it in 62-degree white wine. Take 50~100ml of the infusion daily. Take in several doses. 28 cases of esophageal pain and other digestive system tumors were treated. After medication, 18 cases showed substantial improvement in their symptoms, and the rest also showed significant improvement. Some people were found to have adverse effects on the liver after taking medicinal wine. It was also reported that 23 cases of esophageal cancer and gastric cancer were treated with Dioscorea bulbifera injection, which had a certain effect in controlling symptoms and improving the condition.
