Grind them into very fine powder, mix with water and make into pills as big as fat mustard seeds. For mild cases, take one pill, for severe cases, take two pills. Toad venom is used to treat colds: 2 qian of toad venom (dissolved into paste with soup), 0.5 liang each of dried scorpion (fried with wine) and Gastrodia elata. Toad venom can treat seasonal viruses, sore throats, pharyngeal carbuncles, double and single breast sores, and those who cannot take tea. It can also treat sores on the mouth, carbuncles on the back, intestinal carbuncles, abdominal carbuncles, breast carbuncles, breast ulcers, and all unknown swellings and toxins. It can also treat children with phlegm and convulsions, and lung wind and phlegm and asthma that are in danger of death: 1.5 qian of Guanxi yellow, 1.5 fen of Toad venom (dissolved in liquor), 1.5 qian of top cinnabar, 1.5 fen of coarse pearls, and 1.5 fen of Dangmenzi. Grind the above medicines into fine powder, add rice paste to make pills as big as mustard seeds, coat with 5 parts of Baicao Frost, and take five, seven or ten pills each time, depending on the severity of the disease. (Liushen Pills from "Laryngology Secret Method") 10. Toad venom treats toothache caused by wind decay: a small amount of toad venom, croton (remove the oil and grind into paste), and almond (burnt). Grind the above ingredients into paste and wrap it in cotton wool as big as a grain of millet. Toad venom treats throat paralysis: Take equal parts of soap beans and Aconitum carmichaelii. Grind into fine powder and mix with toad venom to make small pills (the size of red beans). Toad venom can cure all kinds of malignant sores: 2 qian each of toad venom, dry rouge, light powder, cinnabar, and pangolin, and any amount of herb frost. Grind the above ingredients into fine powder and make pills as big as millet. Take five to seven pills each time, increase to eight to nine pills. Use a scallion, split it open with a knife, wrap the medicine inside, tie it with raw silk thread, and roast the scallion over low heat until cooked. Chew the scallion with the medicine in your mouth and drink it while warm. Cover with clothes and it will work when you sweat. (Toad Su Tuoli Pills from Puji Fang) 16. Toad venom is used to treat scrofula: Toad venom as big as a soybean, 15 white cloves, a little cold water stone (calcined), 5 croton seeds, and a little cold food flour. Grind the above ingredients separately, mix them together, grind them again, and use refined honey to make pills as big as mung beans. Use 19, 29 or 39 each time and insert it into the needle hole. If the pus has not been completely eliminated, continue to do it for nine days until all the pus is eliminated. (Toad venom paste from "Medical Biography") 17. Toad venom is used to treat the initial stage of carbuncle, with swelling and pain, but the skin is not red: one qian of toad venom, four pieces of scorpion tail, two qian each of toad shell, ant, gamboge, realgar, frankincense, myrrh, and Chinese aconite, one qian of Aconitum carmichaelii, two qian of cinnabar, and three fen of musk.
