Anti-atherosclerotic effect: Red Poria cocos extract (mainly containing steroidal saponins) can significantly reduce the incidence of experimental atherosclerotic plaques in quails without affecting serum cholesterol concentration. Smilax glabra is sweet, mild and non-toxic, suitable for long-term use. The experimental results suggest that it may become a new drug against atherosclerosis.
