Peony bark is a type of traditional Chinese medicine. As early as in my country's Compendium of Materia Medica, there was a detailed introduction to peony bark. With the continuous development and progress of modern science and technology, peony bark can be used in an increasingly wide range of areas. It can not only reduce inflammation and relieve pain, but if taken with other medicines, it can also treat febrile diseases or menstrual pain and other diseases. Below we will introduce to you the properties of peony bark. Peony bark is a traditional Chinese medicine name. It is the dried root bark of the Ranunculaceae plant peony. Produced in Anhui, Shandong and other places. Dig up the roots in autumn, remove the fine roots, peel off the root bark, and dry them in the sun. Use raw or stir-fried. "Compendium of Materia Medica": "It nourishes yin and reduces fire, removes spots and toxins, benefits the throat, and relieves urinary blood stasis. Later generations used Phellodendron chinense to treat the fire of the liver, not knowing that the function of Cortex Moutan is even better. The red flowers are beneficial, while the white flowers are tonic, but people seldom understand this, so it is advisable to distinguish them." Modern research shows that the peony phenol and other glycoside components contained in it have anti-inflammatory effects; the methanol extract of Cortex Moutan has an inhibitory effect on platelets; peony phenol has central nervous system inhibitory effects such as sedation, cooling, antipyretic, analgesia, and antispasmodic, as well as anti-atherosclerotic, diuretic, and anti-ulcer effects. Peony bark is good at clearing blood and activating blood circulation, so it has the effect of cooling blood and dispersing blood stasis, making the blood flow smoothly without leaving stasis, and clearing blood heat without running wild. Therefore, it is relied upon as an important medicine for symptoms such as excessive heat in the blood, hyperactivity of liver and kidney fire, and blood stasis. This product can clear away heat and cool blood when combined with fresh Rehmannia root; nourish the kidney and reduce fire when combined with large Rehmannia root; clear the liver and reduce heat when combined with Gardenia root; promote blood circulation and disperse blood stasis when combined with red peony root and peach kernel; and cool blood and stop bleeding when combined with Platycladus orientalis leaf and fresh Imperata root. It is used for febrile diseases, heat entering the blood, high fever, red tongue, rashes on the body, blood heat, hematemesis, epistaxis, hematuria, and yin deficiency fever. Peony bark can clear the excess heat in the blood and also treat fever caused by yin deficiency. For clearing excess heat from the blood, it is often used together with fresh Rehmannia root, red peony root, etc.; for treating deficiency heat, it is often used together with large Rehmannia root, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Artemisia annua, turtle shell, etc.; for treating blood heat, it is often used together with fresh Imperata root, Platycladus orientalis leaves, Gardenia jasminoides, etc. It is used for amenorrhea, injuries caused by falls, sores, carbuncles, swellings, intestinal carbuncles, etc. Amenorrhea and injury both cause qi and blood stasis, and pain often occurs due to the obstruction of the collaterals. Cortex Moutan can promote blood circulation and disperse blood stasis, allowing qi and blood to flow smoothly and relieve pain. It is often used together with angelica, red peony root, peach kernel, safflower, etc. This product is also a commonly used medicine for sores, carbuncles, swellings, intestinal carbuncles and other diseases. For the treatment of sores and carbuncles, it can be combined with heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs such as honeysuckle, forsythia, and plantain grass; for the treatment of intestinal abscesses that have not yet formed pus, it can be used together with rhubarb, sodium dregs, peach kernels, wax gourd seeds, etc.; for those that have already formed pus, it can be used together with red vine, forsythia, and Patrinia. This is all we have to say about the properties of peony bark. As a traditional Chinese medicine, peony bark has different effects depending on the different drug combinations. If you don't understand pharmacology very well, don't use it blindly. If you have a disease that requires the use of peony bark, go to a regular hospital for treatment. |
