[Original form] Osmanthus fragrans is a tree, 6-14m tall. The twigs are cylindrical, with scattered round or oval lenticels. Simple leaves are alternate; petiole is 1.5-2cm long; leaf blade is leathery, narrowly lanceolate-elliptic or oblanceolate, 12-15cm long, 4-8cm wide, apex acuminate, base narrowly cuneate, extending down to petiole, margin entire or with small sharp serrations above the middle, glabrous or only sparsely pubescent on the back of the leaf, with beards in vein axils: lateral veins 15-22 on each side, connected by arches at the apex. The flowers are bisexual, with erect panicles, terminal or in the upper leaf axils, about 18 cm long, covered with rusty short soft hairs, small, fragrant, and short-stalked; sepals are ovate with ciliate margins; the outer 3 petals are broadly ovate, white, and the inner 2 are narrowly lanceolate and undivided; developed stamens are about 1 mm long; pistil is about 1.6 mm long; ovary is covered with soft hairs. The drupe is spherical, 6-9mm in diameter, and yellow or red when ripe. The flowering period is summer, and the fruiting period is October-November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in sparse forests on hillsides at an altitude of 200-1000m.

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind and dampness; reduce swelling and relieve pain. Mainly used for rheumatism, bone pain, injuries from falls, pain in waist and knees

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-9g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or decoct it in water for fumigation and washing.
