1. Business Development

1. Business scale

In 2022, the postal industry will complete 139.09 billion pieces of mail delivery business, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%. Among them, the express delivery business volume will reach 110.58 billion pieces, a year-on-year increase of 2.1%.

In 2022, the Postal Group's letter business volume reached 940 million pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 13.5%; the parcel business volume reached 17.573 million pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%; the newspaper subscription and sales business reached 16.56 billion copies, a year-on-year increase of 1.0%; the magazine subscription and sales business reached 690 million copies, a year-on-year increase of 0.7%; the foreign exchange business reached 4.333 million transactions, a year-on-year decrease of 32.9%.

In 2022, the business income of the postal industry (excluding the direct operating income of the Postal Savings Bank) reached 1,350.96 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%. Among them, the express delivery business income reached 1,056.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. The proportion of express delivery business income in the total industry income was 78.2%, a decrease of 3.5 percentage points from the previous year.

The express and parcel service brand concentration index CR 8 is 84.5.

(II) Business structure

In 2022, the volume of intra-city express delivery business was 12.8 billion pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 9.3%; the volume of inter-city express delivery business was 95.77 billion pieces, a year-on-year increase of 4.0%; the volume of international/Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan express delivery business was 2.02 billion pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 4.1%. The volume of intra-city, inter-city, and international/Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan express delivery business accounted for 11.6%, 86.6% and 1.8% of the total respectively.

In 2022, the revenue of intra-city express delivery business reached 68.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 16.2%; the revenue of inter-city express delivery business reached 522.90 billion yuan, the same as the same period last year; the revenue of international/Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan express delivery business reached 116.11 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2%. The revenue of intra-city, inter-city, and international/Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan express delivery business accounted for 6.5%, 49.5% and 11.0% of the total, respectively.

3. Regional structure

The proportion of express delivery business volume in the eastern, central and western regions was 76.8%, 15.7% and 7.5% respectively, and the proportion of express delivery business revenue was 77.6%, 13.4% and 9.0% respectively. The eastern region completed 84.96 billion pieces of express delivery business, a year-on-year increase of 0.4%; achieved business revenue of 819.68 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%. The central region completed 17.35 billion pieces of express delivery business, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%; achieved business revenue of 141.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. The western region completed 8.27 billion pieces of express delivery business, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%; achieved business revenue of 95.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.

The top five provinces in terms of express delivery volume are Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Hebei, and their express delivery volume accounts for 65.8% of the total express delivery volume, down 0.2 percentage points from the top five provinces last year. The top five provinces in terms of express delivery revenue are Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong, and their express delivery revenue accounts for 64.7% of the total express delivery revenue, up 0.1 percentage points from the top five provinces last year.

The top fifteen cities in terms of express delivery business volume are Jinhua (Yiwu), Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jieyang, Hangzhou, Dongguan, Shanghai, Shantou, Suzhou, Quanzhou, Beijing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Wenzhou and Foshan. Their combined express delivery business volume accounts for 51.1% of the total express delivery business volume.

The top fifteen cities in terms of express delivery business revenue are Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Jinhua (Yiwu), Hangzhou, Beijing, Dongguan, Suzhou, Jieyang, Foshan, Chengdu, Wuhan, Tianjin, Zhengzhou and Ningbo. Their express delivery business revenue accounts for 55.5% of the total express delivery business revenue.

2. Communication Capabilities and Service Levels

1. Institutional Equipment

The industry has 434,000 business outlets of various types, an increase of 21,000 over the end of the previous year, of which 117,000 are located in rural areas, an increase of 1,000 over the end of the previous year. There are 231,000 express service outlets, an increase of 3,000 over the end of the previous year, of which 76,000 are located in rural areas, an increase of 1,000 over the end of the previous year.

There are 92,000 postal mailboxes in the country, 3,000 fewer than at the end of last year. There are 8,000 postal newsstands in the country, 1,000 fewer than at the end of last year.

The industry has 161 domestic express cargo planes, 19 more than at the end of last year. The industry has 368,000 vehicles, 19,000 more than at the end of last year, including 265,000 express service vehicles, 14,000 more than at the end of last year.

2. Communication Network

The total number of postal routes in China is 44,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the end of the previous year. The total length of postal routes (one-way) is 11.425 million kilometers, a decrease of 503,000 kilometers from the end of the previous year. There are 104,000 rural postal delivery routes in China, a decrease of 1,000 from the end of the previous year; the length of rural delivery routes (one-way) is 4.147 million kilometers, a decrease of 9,000 kilometers from the end of the previous year. There are 119,000 urban postal delivery routes in China, an increase of 4,000 from the end of the previous year; the length of urban delivery routes (one-way) is 2.375 million kilometers, an increase of 36,000 kilometers from the end of the previous year. The number of express delivery service networks in China is 212,000, an increase of 12,000 from the end of the previous year. The length of the express delivery service network (one-way) is 48.704 million kilometers, an increase of 5.648 million kilometers from the end of the previous year.

3. Service Capabilities

The average service area of ​​each business outlet in the industry is 22.1 square kilometers; the average service population of each business outlet is 3,000 people. The postal company delivers twice a day in urban areas and five times a week in rural areas. The annual per capita letter volume is 0.7 pieces, the number of newspapers and periodicals subscribed per 100 people is 7.6, and the annual per capita express delivery is 78.3 pieces. The annual per capita postal expenditure is 956.9 yuan, and the annual per capita express delivery expenditure is 748.5 yuan.
