The diversification of online travel platforms has led more and more people to choose rural travel?

Compared to the overall tourist accommodation market, online travel platform users are more likely to book their next holiday in a rural area. On average, 16% of tourist accommodation sales in Europe come from rural areas, however, more than a third of online travel platform sales come from rural accommodation. This trend is likely the result of a wider range of accommodation listed on online sales platforms. As a result, this comparison model gives rural and independent hotels greater exposure compared to other accommodation located in tourist hotspots or belonging to large hotel chains.
