【Original morphology】 Plant height 10-30cm. The rhizome is short and erect, with dark brown, lanceolate scales on the top and base of the petiole. Leaves are clustered; petiole is 1-3cm long, with 1 longitudinal groove on it, bright chestnut or reddish brown, smooth upward; leaf blade is thin herbaceous, glabrous, linear-lanceolate or oblanceolate, 10-25cm long, 2-4.5cm wide, acuminate or deeply pinnate at apex, gradually narrowing at base, bipinnate; pinnae are about 20 pairs, spreading, ovate, oblong or narrowly lanceolate, the middle one is larger, 8-30mm long, 6-12mm wide, triangular-lanceolate or lanceolate, acuminate at apex with coarse teeth, asymmetrically truncated at base, usually pinnate-cleft or completely split into 1-2 pairs of pinnae, or completely split into nearly bipinnate, with coarse teeth on the margin, the lower pinnae gradually shortens to ovate, less than 5mm long and wide, the lowest 1 to several pairs often shrink to ovate or ear-shaped; leaf veins are pinnate, lateral veins are forked, not reaching the leaf edge. The sori are oblong, dorsally located in the middle of the veinlets, close to the midrib; the sori cap is oblong, membranous, and entire.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the edge of field ridges or on wet rocks under forests at an altitude of 200-1600m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; sweet; cool

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; soothes the liver and calms the nerves; stops bleeding and promotes diuresis. It is mainly used for acute icteric infectious hepatitis; cough caused by lung heat; infantile convulsions; urinary incontinence; dactylitis; poisonous snake bites

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application. Use raw for clearing heat; stir-fry for stopping bleeding.
