[Original morphology] The body is long, slightly cylindrical in the front and laterally flattened in the back. The body length is about 10 centimeters; the head is large and long, and the head height is slightly lower than the body height. The snout is long, blunt at the front and has a bulge in the middle. The eyes are medium in size and located dorsally. The distance between the eyes is narrow and slightly concave. The mouth is large and slightly oblique. The lower jaw is slightly shorter, and the posterior end of the upper jaw ends below or slightly behind the anterior edge of the eye. Thick lips. Tongue broad, truncated at front. The teeth are sharp, conical, and arranged in narrow bands on both the upper and lower jaws. The gill openings extend slightly forward and downward to below the base of the pectoral fin; the isthmus is quite wide. Gill rakers short and quite thick. Most of the body is covered with ctenoid scales, the neck and chest are covered with small round scales, and the head is scaleless except for the back of the head, upper cheeks and upper gill cover. There are 46 to 50 vertical rows of scales on the sides of the body and about 17 horizontal rows of scales. Dorsal fins: 2, VIII, 14; the first dorsal fin is lower, with thin and weak spines, which do not reach the starting point of the second dorsal fin when laid flat. The second dorsal fin is relatively high. When laid flat, the posterior fin rays can often reach the secondary fin rays at the base of the caudal fin. Anal fins 12-13, starting from below the fourth ray of the second dorsal fin, approximately at the same height as the first dorsal fin. The pectoral fin tip is rounded 19 to 21, and is about the same length as the pelvic fin. Pelvic fin Ⅰ15. The rear edge of the caudal fin is pointed and rounded. The upper part of the body is gray-brown, and the lower part is lighter. There are 5 to 6 inconspicuous dark spots on the sides of the body. The muzzle is darker with dark stripes on the cheeks. The dorsal fin has dark spots arranged in 3 to 5 oblique longitudinal rows; the caudal fin has 7 to 10 wavy horizontal stripes.
