Fragrant leaves, evergreen shrub, 1-3m tall. The twigs are smooth and the bark is yellow-green. The leaves are alternate, fragrant, lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 4.5-9cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, with long pointed tips, sharp or cuneate bases, dark green above, gray-green below, silky when young, with dense pits on both sides; 3-veined, lateral veins thin and inconspicuous; petiole about 5-8mm long. The flowers are dioecious, yellow and fragrant. Umbels are axillary, male inflorescences have no peduncle and have 2-7 flowers; perianth is 6-lobed; there are 9 fertile stamens, anthers are 2-locular, and the petals are inward-lobed. The fruit is oblong, hairless, about 1 cm long, black when ripe, and the pedicel is about the same length as the fruit and has silky hairs.
