[Source] Medicinal material source: The above-ground part of the Ranunculaceae plant Thalictrum scoparium.

[Original form] Whip-column trefoil, perennial herb, 30-90cm tall. Stem erect, unbranched or branched at the top, glabrous. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 1.5-5cm long and glabrous; intercalated leaves are narrow, with irregular cracks on the edges; basal leaves wither during flowering; leaves are two to three pinnate; blades are 10-20cm long; leaflets are herbaceous, broadly rhombic or broadly ovate, both 0.6-1.5cm long and wide, 3-lobed near the middle, with lobes having notched lobes or several small teeth, base rounded or shallowly cordate, glabrous above, with veins slightly sunken, and sparse short hairs on veins below or becoming glabrous; petiolules have short hairs or become hairless. The panicle is 10-35 cm long and has many flowers; the flowers are bisexual, with male and female flowers on different plants. Sepals 4, petal-shaped, elliptic or elliptic-ovate, 1.5-2.8mm long, yellowish green, sometimes purple, caducous early; petals absent; stamens numerous, 6mm long, filaments filiform, anthers narrowly oblong, 2.5-3mm long, with short tips at apex; carpels 6-9 in bisexual flowers, 10-20 in female flowers, ovate, stigma finely subulate, longer than ovary, about 1.2mm long, with very narrow wings. Achenes are ovoid, about 1.6 mm long, with 8 longitudinal ribs. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the edge of mountain forests, grasslands or fields at an altitude of 2300-3000m.

[Chemical composition] The whole herb contains hernandeine, crytopine, berberine, jatrorrhizine, and magnoflorine.
