[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Syringa japonica of the Onagraceae family.

[Original form] Subshrubby herb, 0.3-1m high. The stem is erect, slightly ridged, green when young and turning red when old. The upper part of the stem is hollow and the whole plant is covered with soft hairs. Leaves are alternate; almost sessile; leaf blades are lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 3-15cm long, 1-2.5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base, entire, densely pubescent on both sides. Flowers are bisexual, solitary in leaf axils, nearly sessile; calyx tube linear, sepals 4, oblong, 6-15mm long, with 3 veins, persistent; petals 4, yellow, obovate, apex slightly concave, with 4 pairs of obvious veins, 8-10mm long; stamens 8; ovary inferior, stigma capitate. The capsule is cylindrical, green or lavender, 2-5cm long, about 5mm in diameter, hairy, and cracked between the edges; the seeds are numerous, nearly hemispherical, and have a distinct ridge. Flowering period is from July to October.
