【English name】 Chestnut-brown Mecodium

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pteris cretica of the family Pteridaceae.

[Original form] Epiphytic fern, plant height 15-25cm. The rhizome is brown, wire-like, long and horizontal, almost smooth, with very few hairs, and about 0.8mm thick; sparsely fibrous roots grow below. Leaves are distal, membranous, brown or green-brown after drying, about 2 cm apart; petiole 5-10 cm long, with straight or wavy broad wings on both sides to the base of the petiole, the wings and petiole are about 2 mm wide; leaf blade is three-pinnate, lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate or ovate, 10-15 cm long, 4-6 cm wide, pinnae 10-12 pairs, alternate, with short petioles, ovate-triangular to narrowly ovate, 1.5-4 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide, closely connected, pinnae 3-4 pairs, sessile, spreading, oblong, base lower side decurrent, closely connected; terminal lobes 2-6, alternate, oblique upward, oblong to broad linear, entire, simple or forked; leaf veins forked-branched, terminal lobe with 1 small vein; rachis and rachis both have broad wings, slightly tortuous. There are many sporangia, located on all pinnae, attached to the tips of short lobes toward the axis; the sac is nearly round or oblate, wider than high, 1.5-2mm in diameter, the lip is deeply divided to the base, the entire margin or the upper margin has slight teeth, and the lobe below the base is slightly narrowed.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in broad-leaved forests on hillsides at an altitude of 600-1600m, epiphytic on trees or on moist rocks by streams under dense forests.

【Functions and indications】Detoxification and heat clearing; tissue regeneration and hemostasis. It is used for burns caused by water or fire; carbuncle; swelling; bleeding caused by trauma

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, crush the fresh product and apply; or grind the dry product into powder and apply.
