[Source] Medicinal material source: The seeds of Argemonemexicana L., a plant of the Poppy family.

[Original form] Poppy is an annual herb, 30-100cm tall, with bitter juice. The stem is branched, scattered with thorns, and covered with white powder. Basal leaves are densely clustered; with short petioles less than 1 cm long; leaf blades are elliptical, 5-20 cm long, 2.5-7.5 cm wide, green on the upper side, grayish white on both sides along the veins, grayish green on the lower side, with scattered thorns along the veins on both sides, deeply pinnate-shaped edges, lobes with wavy teeth, and thorns at the tips of the teeth; stem leaves are alternate, sessile or semi-amplexicaulous. Flowers densely arranged in terminal inflorescence; pedicels extremely short; each flower with 2-3 leaf-like bracts, 1-3cm long and 1-1.5cm wide; sepals boat-shaped, 1cm long, with spurs at the tip, thorns at the tip, and a few thorns scattered on the outside, which fall off when flowering; 6 petals, broadly obovate, 1.7-3cm long, yellow or orange-yellow; filaments about 7mm long, anthers narrowly oblong, 1.5-2mm long, curved into semicircle to circle after cracking; ovary oblong, about 0.7-1cm high, covered with yellow-brown extended thorns, style extremely short, stigma 3-6 lobed, dark red. The capsule is oval, 2.5-5cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, covered with sparse yellow-brown spines, and has 4-6 lobes that split from the tip to 1/4-1/3 of the total length. The seeds are spherical with obvious reticulation. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in fields or rivers at an altitude of 850-1200m.

[Chemical composition] The seeds contain flavonoids such as argemexitin, 5,7-dihydrochromone-7-neohesperidoside, luteolin and eriodictyol.

【Functions and indications】Laxative; emetic; detoxification; analgesic. Mainly used for constipation, hernia, toothache, syphilis

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct 2-4g.
