[Source] It is a plant of the genus Polygonum , Polygonaceae, Polygonum chinense L., and the whole plant is used as medicine. It can be harvested in all seasons, washed, dried or used fresh.

[Original form] Perennial climbing herb, up to 1.5 meters long. The stem is cylindrical, slightly grooved, solid at the lower part, and has many branches. The prostrate ones take roots at the nodes, and the young branches are purple-red. Simple leaves are alternate, oblong or ovate-triangular. In autumn, small white or light pink flowers bloom on the top of the branches, and the inflorescence heads are organized into cones or umbels. Achenes are ovate, triangular, black and shiny.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly sour, slightly astringent, and cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, promotes the flow of dampness and eliminates stagnation, cools blood and relieves itching, improves eyesight and removes cataracts. Used for dysentery, enteritis, indigestion, hepatitis, colds, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, diphtheria, whooping cough, corneal opacity, candidal vaginitis, leucorrhea, mastitis, furunculosis, impetigo in children, eczema, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] 0.5-1 cold; for external use, mash the fresh product and apply to the affected area.
