[Source] Medicinal material source: The root or root bark of Hibiscus mutabilis L., a plant of the Malvaceae family.

[Original form] Hibiscus mutabilis is a deciduous shrub or small tree, 2-5m tall. The twigs, petioles, pedicels and calyx are densely covered with fine cottony hairs mixed with stellate hairs and straight hairs. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 5-20cm long; stipules are lanceolate, 6-8mm long, often falling early; leaves are broadly ovate to ovate or cordate, 10-15cm in diameter, often 5-7-lobed, lobes are triangular, acuminate at the apex, with obtuse serrations, sparsely covered with stellate fine hairs and dots on the upper side, densely covered with stellate fine hairs on the lower side; there are 7-11 main veins. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils at the end of the branches, with pedicels about 5-8mm long and with nodes at the proximal end; the bracts are 8, linear, 10-16mm long, about 2mm wide, densely covered with stellate wool, and fused at the base; the calyx is bell-shaped; 2.5-3cm long, with 5 lobes, ovate, and gradually pointed; the flowers are white or light red when they first open, then turn dark red, about 8cm in diameter, the petals are nearly round, 4-5cm in diameter, covered with hairs on the outside, and bearded at the base; the stamen column is 2.5-3cm long and glabrous; the styles are 5, sparsely covered with hairs. The capsule is oblate, about 2.5 cm in diameter, covered with light yellow bristles and wool, with 5 valves. Seeds reniform, pubescent on the back. Flowering period is August to October.

[Habitat distribution] It is native to Hunan, my country and is now cultivated in East China, Central South, Southwest China, Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi, Taiwan and other places.
