[Original form] A shrub of the southern Yunnan medengue tree, 2-3m tall. The thorny short branches are long and thick and do not bend downward. The petiole is thick and about 1 cm long; the leaf blade is leathery, oblong-obovate or long-obovate; about 9 cm long and 6 cm wide, with a short acuminate tip and a cuneate base that extends downward. Cymes, small flowers, bisexual. Infructescence is mostly clustered, 2-3 times branched, branches are cylindrical, strong, about 1cm long, and fruit pedicels are about 1cm long with enlarged tips. The capsule is triangular and oblate, about 15mm long and 18mm in diameter, and the fruit lobes are leathery. There are 1-2 seeds, which are obovate; about 5mm long, with dark brown-red seed coat. They bloom in April and ripen in May.
