[Distribution] They live in groups, often in rivers, lakes and ponds. They are carnivorous and often feed on worms and small fish. They have strong vitality and can survive without food for several months. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi and other places. [Properties] The dry plastron is slightly plate-like and oblong-oval, with costal scales attached to both sides, slightly wing-shaped. 10-20 cm long, 7-10 cm wide, about 5 mm thick, outer surface yellow-brown to brown, sometimes with purple-brown texture, inner surface yellow-white to grayish white. It is composed of 12 ventral scales that are fitted together, with a serrated seam at the fitting point. The front end is wider and slightly rounded or truncated, while the rear end is narrower and sunken, forming a V-shaped notch. The ribs on both sides are composed of 4 pairs of rib scales, and there is often a remnant scale left at both ends. The "blood version" has a smooth surface, with the outer skin still intact, sometimes with slight blood marks; the "soup version" has a dull surface, with the skin having fallen off. It is hard, with the outer edge of the cross section being ivory white and solid; the inside being milky white or flesh-red with pores. It has a fishy smell and a slightly salty taste. The best ones are those with blood plates, large pieces, complete, clean and free of dead flesh.

[Preparation] Turtle shell: soak in clean water, scrape off the remaining meat, wash, dry, and break into small pieces. Vinegar tortoise shells; put the sand in a pan and fry it until hot, pour in the raw tortoise shells and stir-fry until the surface turns slightly yellow, take them out in time, sieve out the sand, soak them in a wax basin for a while, take them out, rinse them with water, and dry them in the sun.
