[Source] Medicinal material source: The rhizome of Gingerbread of the ginger family.

[Original form] Ginger with smooth leaves, perennial herb, 2-4m tall. The stem is often branched. The leaves are obovate-oblong, 12-20cm long, 4-8cm wide, with a short tip at the apex, a gradually narrowed or nearly rounded base, and glabrous on both sides; the leaf sheaths embrace the stem and are interpenetrating. The spike inflorescence is spherical or ovate, growing from the rhizome, with a diameter of about 8 cm; the peduncle is 4-13 cm long, covered with red sheath-like bracts; the bracts are arranged in a shingle-like manner, oblong, 2.5-4.5 cm long, covered with short soft hairs, and with a sharp hard tip at the tip; the bracteoles are 1-1.4 cm long. The flowers are yellow, the calyx is tubular, about 3cm long, with 3 teeth, and the tooth tips are sharp; the corolla tube is longer than the calyx tube, the lobes are linear-lanceolate, about 3.2cm long, and nearly equal; the lip is trumpet-shaped, 5-6cm long, slightly contracted at the base; the developed stamens are light yellow, petal-shaped, about 3cm long, and slightly emarginate at the apex; the ovary is triangular. The capsule is spherical, about 1 cm in diameter.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the shade of mountain forests at an altitude of 290-600m.

【Functions and indications】Diuresis and detumescence; anti-rheumatism; detoxification. Mainly used for ascites due to liver cirrhosis; edema due to nephritis; urinary tract infection; scrotal swelling and pain; rheumatic pain; unknown swelling and infection; urticaria

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-9g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or boil it in water for washing.
