[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant or root of Syringa japonica, a plant of the Rubiaceae family.

[Original form] Stone lilac is an epiphytic, multi-branched small shrub, usually less than 1m tall. The branches are often twisted. 3-4 pairs of leaves are clustered at the top of shortened branches; stipules are ovate, 6-7mm long and wide; leaf blades are papery, elliptic-ovate to lanceolate, 8-15cm long, 3.5-5.5cm wide, with pointed apex, gradually narrowing to a short petiole 2-3mm long at the base, with scattered short soft hairs on the upper side and hairs only on the veins on the lower side, with 16-18 pairs of lateral veins, forming marginal veins close to the leaf margin. The inflorescence is sparse, terminal, and trifurcated; the bracts are large leaves with long petioles; the flowers are large and white; the pedicels are 2-3mm long; the calyx tube is obconical, 3mm long, with 5 lobes, linear, 8mm long, and reflexed when fruiting; the corolla is white, the corolla tube is 5-7m long, with 5 lobes; the stamens are hidden; the stigma is 2-lobed. The capsule is obconical, 1.5-2.2cm long, 6mm in diameter, brown, pubescent, veined, and split into 2 lobes. There are many seeds, which are stacked and the seed coat extends to both ends to form a tail shape. Flowering period is June-July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows in forests or on tree trunks and rocks.

【Nature and flavor】 slightly bitter; astringent; neutral

【Functions and indications】Strengthen tendons and bones; promote the elimination of dampness and reduces swelling. Mainly used for low back pain due to kidney deficiency; edema due to malnutrition; eczema; traumatic injury

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and wash with decoction.
