[Original form] Broad bean is a biennial or annual herb, 30-180cm tall. Stem erect, unbranched, glabrous. Even-pinnate compound leaves; stipules large, semi-arrow-shaped, white membranous margins, sparsely serrated, glabrous, with reduced tendrils at the top of the rachis; 2-6 leaflets, leaf blades elliptic or broadly elliptic to oblong, 4-8cm long, 2.5-4cm wide, rounded or obtuse at the apex, with a fine tip, cuneate at the base, and entire margin. The racemes are axillary or solitary, with a very short peduncle; the calyx is bell-shaped, membranous, about 1.3 cm long, 5-lobed, and the lobes are lanceolate, with the upper 2 lobes slightly shorter; the corolla is butterfly-shaped, white, with red-purple markings, the standard petal is obovate, obtuse at the apex, gradually narrowing towards the base, the wing petals are elliptical, rounded at the apex, and ear-shaped triangular at the base with a claw on one side, and the keel petals are triangular-semicircular and have claws; there are 10 stamens, two-body; the ovary is sessile and glabrous, and there is a tuft of white beards on the back of the tip of the scape. The pods are oblong, thick, 5-10cm long and about 2cm wide. There are 2-4 seeds, which are oval and slightly flat. The flowering period is March-April, and the fruiting period is June-August.

[Properties] Characteristics identification: The flowers are mostly wrinkled, 2-3cm long, dark brown, and usually 1 to several flowers are born on a very short peduncle. The corolla is butterfly-shaped, the standard petal is obovate, wrapping the wing petals and keel petals; the wing petals have a large black-purple spot in the center; the keel petals are triangular and semicircular and palm-shaped. It has a slight fragrance and a light taste. The best ones are those with whole flowers, no leaves and no stems.
