7. Carbuncle and ulcer. There is no limit to the amount of Polygonum multiflorum you can use. Boil it over a gentle or strong fire, add an equal amount of wine, and boil it a few more times. Save the wine and drink it at any time. Take the residue, dry it, grind it into powder, and mix it with wine and flour to make it into balls as big as walnuts. Take 30 pills each time, on an empty stomach, with warm wine. After recovery, you can take the medicine as usual.

8. Wind plague. Use one pound of Polygonum multiflorum (preferably large ones with patterns), soak it in rice washing water for seven days, repeatedly steam and dry it in the sun for several times, add four ounces of sesame, steam and dry it again, grind it into powder, take two cents each time, with wine, twice a day.

9. Scabies. Use equal parts of Polygonum multiflorum and Qu leaves, boil them in water to make a thick soup for bathing, which can relieve pain and build muscle. Bathing with a decoction of Polygonum multiflorum stems and leaves is also effective.

The efficacy and function of Shouwu and how to eat it

The role of Polygonum multiflorum

(1) Promote hematopoietic function

Subcutaneous injection of 0.2 g of Shouwu liquid twice a day for 3 consecutive days in mice can significantly increase the yield of granulocyte progenitor cells compared with the saline control group. Intraperitoneal injection of 50 mg/kg of Polygonum multiflorum extract into mice for 3 consecutive days can significantly increase the number of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells, significantly improve the production rate of mouse granulocyte-monocyte progenitor cells, and significantly increase the value of bone marrow erythroid progenitor cells.

(2) Enhance immune function

Polygonum multiflorum has a significant antagonistic effect on the inhibitory changes in the spleen and thymus of aged mice caused by prednisolone and cyclophosphamide, and significantly increases the phagocytic rate and phagocytic index of splenic macrophages. Feeding Polygonum multiflorum ethanol extract can significantly improve the damage and repair ability of DNA in peripheral lymphocytes of elderly rats. Gavage of 6 g/kg of processed Polygonum multiflorum to mice for 7 consecutive days can significantly improve the phagocytic ability of peritoneal macrophages and have a significant antagonistic effect on the decrease in phagocytic index caused by prednisolone.

(3) Lowering blood lipids and preventing atherosclerosis

Giving 4g/kg Polygonum multiflorum to rats with hyperlipidemia daily for 10 consecutive days can significantly reduce the levels of serum total cholesterol (TC) and serum triglyceride (TG) in rats. For quails with hyperlipidemia, continuous gavage of Polygonum multiflorum for 4 weeks can significantly reduce serum TC content and increase the HDL/TC ratio. Other experiments have shown that oral administration of Polygonum multiflorum for 7 days in rabbits with hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis models can not only reduce TC content but also alleviate the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. Feeding mice with 32g/kg of Polygonum multiflorum water extract for one month can significantly increase HDL-C levels. When Polygonum multiflorum was added to feed and fed to rats for 90 days, HDL-C was significantly increased, while TG and TC showed no significant changes, and it had a significant inhibitory effect on β-lipoprotein. When the alcohol extract of Polygonum multiflorum was administered intragastrically to quails with rapid atherosclerosis for 6 consecutive weeks, the plasma HDL-C/TC ratio increased significantly, and the effect was more significant in the high-dose group. All drug-administered groups had the effect of delaying atherosclerosis. The active ingredients of Polygonum multiflorum that have lipid-lowering and anti-cholesterol effects include anthraquinones, diphenylene compounds and lecithin.

(4) Protect liver

The diphenylene compounds contained in Polygonum multiflorum have a significant antagonistic effect on fatty liver and liver function damage caused by peroxidized corn oil in rats, increased liver lipid peroxides, increased serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, etc., and reduce the levels of serum free fatty acids and liver lipid peroxides. In vitro, it can inhibit rat liver microsomal lipid peroxidation caused by ADP and NADPH. Polygonum multiflorum also has the effect of increasing liver glycogen. Raw Polygonum multiflorum, Polygonum multiflorum processed with black bean juice and steamed Polygonum multiflorum decoction have an antagonistic effect on hepatic fat accumulation caused by prednisone acetate, can reduce liver enlargement caused by CCl4, and reduce the liver weight coefficient.

(5) Delaying aging: Modern research shows that vitamin E prevents the regeneration of wrinkles.

Feeding old or young mice with a decoction of Polygonum multiflorum can significantly increase the protein content in the brain and liver, and improve the DNA repair ability of the elderly body. The ethanol extract and water extract of Polygonum multiflorum can increase the content of thymic cytoplasmic protein and nucleic acid in aged rats to varying degrees.

The anti-aging effect of Polygonum multiflorum is related to its antioxidant effect. Giving concentrated decoction of Polygonum multiflorum to elderly mice can significantly enhance the activity of SOD in their blood. Processing has a certain influence on the antioxidant effect of Polygonum multiflorum. Both the new and old processed products can significantly increase the SOD activity of mouse whole blood and brain tissue, and can reduce the LPO content in the heart, liver, brain tissue and blood of mice. The raw product has no obvious effect on SOD and LPO. The alcohol extract or water extract of Polygonum multiflorum can increase the SOD content and reduce the LPO content in the heart, liver and brain tissues of aged rats to varying degrees.

(6) Impact on endocrine system

Long-term oral administration of Polygonum multiflorum decoction concentrate to mice can significantly increase the weight of their adrenal glands. Polygonum multiflorum also has an effect similar to the function of the adrenal cortex. It can significantly improve the stress resistance of mice with bilateral adrenal removal and reduce the mortality rate of mice caused by freezing. Prepared Polygonum multiflorum promotes the accumulation of liver glycogen in norepinephrine-starved mice, significantly increasing liver glycogen. The effect of Polygonum multiflorum on blood sugar has a certain time effect. After rabbits are given Polygonum multiflorum decoction orally, their blood sugar rises to a peak within 30 to 60 minutes, then gradually decreases. After 6 hours, the blood sugar is lower than normal. Rat liver insulin receptor has two types of receptors: high affinity and low capacity, and low affinity and high capacity. The binding capacity of aged mice is significantly reduced, but the affinity does not change. Polygonum multiflorum had no significant effect on both capacity and affinity parameters.

(7) Lubricates the intestines and promotes bowel movements

When used raw, Polygonum multiflorum has a strong laxative effect. Its active ingredient, chrysophanol, can promote intestinal movement in animals. Some patients with hyperlipidemia experienced increased bowel movement and diarrhea after taking the medicine.
