[Original form] Subshrub, about 60cm high. Often branched in upper part; stem quadrangular, with appressed strigosus, mainly on ridges. Petiole very short or absent; leaf blade firm papery, oblong-ovate to elliptic-ovate, rarely narrowly lanceolate, apex acute, base rounded or nearly cordate, (2-)3-5cm long, (3-)6-10(-14)mm wide, entire, both surfaces strigose, 3-5 basal veins, raised on the back, veinlets inconspicuous. Inflorescence capitulate, terminal, with 3-8 flowers, 2-6 leaf-like involucres at base; bracts ovate, only with ciliates, without pedicels, calyx tube about 6mm long, glabrous or with a few prickly protuberances, 4 lobes, ovate or triangular-lanceolate, as long as calyx tube, with ciliates, with a prickly protuberance on the outer edge between each lobe, falling off with sepals when fruiting; 4 petals, lavender or pink, obovate, about 1m long, with ciliates; 8 stamens, often leaning to one side, filaments as long as anthers, anthers with beaks at top, beaks 1/2 or 1/3 as long as anthers, connective base slightly swollen and disc-shaped; ovary nearly spherical, 4-chambered, with bristles only at the tip. The capsule is ovoid-globose, with 4 longitudinal cracks, persistent calyx-shaped, about 6mm long and 4mm in diameter, glabrous on the outside or with a few prickly protrusions; the seeds are nearly horseshoe-shaped, with small wart-like protrusions on the surface, flowering period is August-October, and fruiting period is November-January of the following year.
