[Source] It is a plant of the genus Chloranthus of the Chloranthus family and Chloranthus serratus (Thunb.) Roem. et Schult., and its root or whole plant is used as medicine. In summer and autumn, dig up the whole herb, wash it, and dry it in the sun; or cut off the roots and dry them separately.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 20 to 40 cm high. The rhizome is horizontal, short and thick, with dense fibrous roots, shaped like a asarum. The stem is single or several, extending from the root, with obvious nodes, glabrous, and simple leaves opposite, usually 4 leaves growing at the top of the stem, elliptical or ovate-elliptical. It blooms in summer, with a single or 2-3 spike inflorescence growing at the top of the stem, without pedicels or perianth. The berries are pear-shaped.

[Functions and indications] Relaxes muscles and tendons, dispels wind and relieves pain, reduces swelling and detoxifies. Used for bruises, rheumatic pain in the waist and legs, carbuncles, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] 1-2 qian; for external use, mash the fresh grass and apply it to the affected area.
