The branches are cylindrical, with fine longitudinal stripes, light green or reddish, and obvious lenticels; the terminal buds are ovate, the bud scales are brown, and densely covered with silky pubescence. Leaves are alternate; petiole 7-15mm long; leaf blade ovate or oblong, 7-10cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, hard and papery, three-veined or three-veined off-base, convex on both sides. Umbels axillary; bracts caducous; pedicels about 4mm long; 3-4 male flowers, yellow, gray pubescent; 6 tepals, ovate-lanceolate, filaments sparsely pubescent; 3rd whorl of stamens with two round kidney-shaped glands near base; female flowers white, yellow or yellow-green, gray pubescent; 9 staminodes, 3rd whorl sometimes petal-shaped, with two round kidney-shaped glands at base; ovary elliptical, about 2mm long, nearly as long as style, both gray pubescent. The fruit is oval, 1-1.4 cm long, black when ripe, with a receptacle diameter of about 2 mm and a pedicel length of 1-1.5 cm. The flowering period is February, and the fruiting period is June-September.
