Leaves are alternate; petiole 1-2cm long, stellate pubescent to glabrous; leaf blade elliptic, oblong-elliptic or obovate-elliptic, 7-15cm long, 4.5-8cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, rarely caudal, base broadly cuneate or cuneate, margin serrulate, both sides covered with brown stellate hairs, sometimes falling off and becoming glabrous, beneath brown or off-white, sometimes with white powder; lateral veins 7-12 pairs. Inflorescence is in the form of a raceme or panicle, terminal or axillary, with pedicels densely covered with brown stellate hairs; bracteoles are awl-shaped and caducous; calyx is cup-shaped, with 5 lobes at the apex; flowers are white with pink, 1.5-2cm long, with 5 corolla lobes, both sides covered with stellate hairs; 10 stamens, 5 long and 5 short, with filaments united at the base into a tube about 8mm long; ovary is densely covered with yellow long hairs, 5-chambered, style linear, stigma inconspicuously 5-lobed. The capsule is oblong and splits longitudinally into 5 lobes when ripe. The seeds are numerous, oblong, and have irregular membranous wings at both ends. Flowering period is April to July; fruiting period is August to October.
