[Original morphology] Velvety star grass is an annual herb, 20-60cm tall. The compound capitula is spherical or nearly ellipsoidal, 10-14mm long, about 10mm wide, reddish purple, solitary at the top of the branches; the capitula is extremely numerous; the involucral bracts are 10-12, the outer layer is velvety-spatulate, herbaceous, 4-4.5mm long, with a pointed tip, pubescent on the back, and cilia on the margin; the inner layer is spatulate-oblong, dry membranous, about 4mm long, with an obtuse or pointed tip, pubescent on the back, and cilia on the upper margin; the female flowers are more numerous, 12-16, filamentous, 3-4mm long, with a stalk 0.2-0.3mm long, the corolla tube is not swollen or slightly swollen at the bottom, glabrous, and has 3 teeth on the eaves; the bisexual flowers are 2-5, about 4.5mm long, the corolla tube is nearly bell-shaped, gradually tapering downwards, sometimes slightly concave in the middle, and with glandular dots, the eaves has 5 lobes, and the lobes are nearly triangular.
