【Original form】 1. Perennial twining herb. The stem is glabrous, with internodes 7-15 cm long. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-3cm long; leaf blade is ovate, broadly ovate, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 4-7(-11)cm long, 2-3.5cm wide, apex is caudate-acuminate, base is cordate, rarely nearly round, margin is finely serrated, green above, light green below; leaf veins are 3. Flowers solitary or in cymes; pedicels short, bracteoles ovate or triangular; calyx bell-shaped, calyx tube 7-9mm long, winged, 5-lobed, lobes linear-lanceolate, unequal in size; corolla light green, light yellow or white, narrowly bell-shaped, 3.5-4cm long, 5-lobed at the apex, lobes triangular, folds triangular, oblique, apex irregularly wavy; stamens 5, irregularly inserted at the lower part of the corolla tube; ovary lanceolate, with short petioles, gradually narrowed at both ends, about 3mm long, with a 5-lobed disk at the base, style linear, stigma 2-lobed. The berries are enclosed, oblong, and have a short stalk.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: 1. Growing under broad-leaved forests on hillsides at an altitude of 300-2300m.

[Chemical composition] The whole plant of Taiwan Pulmonaria contains 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone (norathyriol), 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone-6-0-β-D-glucoside (tripteroside), ursolic acid and methyl oleanate. The whole plant of Japanese double butterfly contains oleanolic acid, mangiferin, 1,8-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethoxyxanthone 4-O-β-D-glucoside (lancaside) and C-4-β-D-glucosyl-1,3,7-trihydroxyxanthone (lancerin).
