[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the root of Glycyrrhiza uralensis, a plant of the Asteraceae family.

[Original form] Gray thistle is a perennial herb, about 1m tall. The tuber is spindle-shaped or radish-shaped, with a diameter of up to 1.5 cm. The stem is erect, striated, densely covered with spider-like soft hairs, semi-amplexicaulous at the upper part, deeply pinnately divided, with lobes linear or lanceolate-linear, with 5-10mm long spines at the tip, covered with spiny appressed hairs above and spider-like pubescence below. 1-3 capitulums clustered at branch ends, sessile, spherical, about 3cm long, 3-4cm wide; involucre slightly covered with spider-like hairs; outer and middle involucral bracts lanceolate, with thorns at the tips, inner involucral bracts linear, nearly membranous, slightly expanded at the tips; corolla white, yellowish-white, rarely purple, about 19mm long, tube about 8mm long. Achenes are oblong, about 4mm long; pappus are dirty white, feathery, slightly shorter than corolla, and club-shaped at tip. Flowering and fruiting period is from May to September.
